NEWSBRIEF August 2008 For GMB members in Asda sites of Distribution World This is an update from Eddie Gaudie, Regional Officer, to let you know what is happening at the Skelmersdale Cold Storage and Chilled Distribution Site. For those who are unaware, Skelmersdale is the latest Distribution Site in the ASDA chain to obtain GMB Recognition. As part of the Recognition Agreement we now have the right to negotiate on behalf of the workforce for their Terms and Conditions. This is a first for Skelmersdale and we have been doing so over the last couple of months with the Managers at Skelmersdale. We have rejected four offers from the Company so far, with the last offer of 3.1% and the change of Terms and Conditions for Bank Holiday payments have been rejected to date by a 90+% majority. We are now seeking further talks with the company to see if they are prepared to increase their offer. The Stewards at the Skelmersdale site are now also members of the National Shop Stewards Forum, where they meet with other Reps from other Depots which the GMB has facilitated for the exchange of information, hopefully leading to National negotiations in the near future. Because of the ongoing Ballot at the Skelmersdale site and the increasing representations Shop Stewards are getting involved with, the membership has increased by over 20%.
